Sean McDermott was born on March 25, 1967, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Kim McDermott and Rich McDermott, who was a college head football coach himself. McDermott's family lived in West Chester and Paoli before settling in Lansdale when McDermott was in second grade.

McDermott first attended North Penn High School, where he played football and baseball. He then went on to play football at William & Mary College, where he was a three-year starter at linebacker.

Coaching Career

After graduating from William & Mary, McDermott began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Bucknell University. He then spent time as an assistant coach at Miami University, Connecticut, and Rutgers University before being hired as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.

McDermott was fired by the Eagles after four seasons, and he spent the next two years as the defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2017, he was hired as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and he has led the team to the playoffs in three of his four seasons.

Personal Life

McDermott is married to Jamie McDermott, and they have two children together, a son and a daughter. The couple currently resides in Orchard Park, New York.
